Fiduciary Financial Planning in Cheyenne, Wyoming
Freedom 360 is our proprietary financial planning process with a tax first approach.
It’s highly effective for high-net-worth families and individuals in higher tax brackets. This is what the first 10 days look like. It gives everyone a chance to see how we communicate and if we’re a great fit for each other.
Step 1: Asset Mapping
In the Discovery phase we map out assets, source income through a tax review and interview clients on their wants and wishes. Tell us your hopes and dreams.
Step 2 : Advisor Target Mapping
We take the time to perform a 360-degree review of assets, income, insurance, estate planning. This usually takes us a week to really get to know our you on paper. We will do all the behind-the-scenes magic to make sure we’ve covered every facet.
Step 3 : Present and Collaborate
This is a 1-hour presentation that covers everything you need to know. This is a pressure-free financial planning session where we get to show everything we’ve uncovered along with any proposed changes to your situation. We will answer those questions you have like, “When can I retire?” or “How much can I spend?” maybe even “Am I paying too much in taxes?”
Step 4: The Weekender
Nobody commits to anyone for 24-48 hours. Take your information home, talk to your spouse, ask your friends, think and decide. This is the most important step in the process. We want you to feel confident and happy if you choose us. Often working with an advisor is a lifelong decision and we all want to feel confident in that decision.
Step 5: Elect and Implement
With a couple days behind you, we’re ready for that follow up. We will tell you if you’re the right fit for us, and you can tell us the same. If we feel like we’re mutually benefiting from working together we can begin a working relationship.

Tax-First Financial Planning
Maximize Your Wealth with Cheyenne’s Tax-First Approach
What is Tax-First Financial Planning?
At Asset Financial Planners in Cheyenne, WY, our tax-first financial planning prioritizes minimizing your tax burden to maximize your wealth, especially for high-net-worth individuals within 5 years of retirement with investable assets of $250,000 to $10 million. By focusing on tax efficiency, we help you keep more of your hard-earned money, leveraging Wyoming’s no-income-tax advantage and our expertise in ETF portfolios, Roth conversions, and smart distribution strategies.
Why Tax-First Planning Matters for High-Net-Worth Retirees
As a high-net-worth individual nearing retirement, you face unique challenges: large pre-tax accounts like IRAs or 401(k)s can trigger significant tax liabilities, and complex estates, like ranches or businesses, require strategic planning. Our tax-first approach, integrated with our Freedom 360 Process and Journey Portfolios™, helps ensure and assist in securing that every financial decision—from investments to withdrawals—is optimized to reduce taxes and secure your legacy in Wyoming’s tax-friendly environment.
Our Tax-First Approach Delivers:
- ETF Portfolios: Our Journey Portfolios™, built with low-cost, tax-efficient ETFs, minimize capital gains taxes and align with your retirement timeline and risk tolerance, helping ensure your $250,000–$10M portfolio can grow efficiently.
- Roth Conversions: We strategically convert pre-tax accounts (e.g., IRAs, 401(k)s) to Roth IRAs, leveraging Wyoming’s no-income-tax status to reduce future taxes and Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs).
- Smart Distribution Strategies: We sequence withdrawals from pre-tax, Roth, and taxable accounts to stay in lower tax brackets, using our Freedom 360 Process to model income needs and minimize taxes.
- Estate Tax Minimization: We use Wyoming’s dynasty trusts and gifting strategies to reduce federal estate taxes, preserving wealth for heirs or charities, ideal for ranchers or business owners.
- Holistic Planning: Our Freedom 360 Process integrates taxes, investments, retirement, and estate planning, ensuring every decision supports your goal of a secure, tax-efficient retirement.
Example: A Cheyenne client with a $1.5M 401(k) saved $90,000 in taxes over 10 years through our Roth conversion and smart distribution strategies, while our ETF portfolio reduced their capital gains taxes by 15%.

Wealth Management in Cheyenne: Our Fiduciary Approach
If you are looking for a wealth advisor in Cheyenne who understands the unique local economic landscape—from the state government sector to our thriving small business community—our team is here to help. Asset Financial Planners is a marketing name (DBA) for investment advisory services offered through United Planners Financial Services of America, a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) and member of FINRA/SIPC.
Whether you’re visiting our office in Laramie County or connecting virtually from across the state, discover the benefits of a "tax-first" planning partnership. We are committed to a fiduciary standard for our advisory services, providing the transparency and personalized guidance that high-net-worth Wyoming families deserve.
When should I start planning for my retirement exit strategy?
Ideally, you should begin formal retirement planning at least 5 to 10 years before your target date.
This "Red Zone" is critical for shifting from a wealth-accumulation mindset to a wealth-preservation and distribution mindset. If you are a business owner or rancher in areas like Douglas or Casper, this lead time is even more vital to ensure a smooth, tax-efficient succession or sale.
Mitigating "Sequence of Returns" Risk
The biggest threat in the Red Zone is market timing. If the market dips significantly right as you begin taking distributions, it can cannibalize your principal and permanently shorten the "life" of your portfolio. By starting 10 years out, we can build a "Cash Bucket Strategy." This helps ensures your lifestyle is funded by stable, liquid assets, giving your growth-oriented investments the necessary time to recover from market volatility without forcing you to sell at a loss.
Why choose a local practice over a national brand?
While our regulatory backing comes from a national RIA, our local expertise remains focused on the Wyoming landscape. By operating as a local office in Cheyenne, we provide:
- Direct Accountability: You meet with the same advisors who live and work in your community.
- Specialized Knowledge: We understand the nuances of Wyoming’s tax climate and the specific needs of local sectors like state government, energy, and agriculture.
- Unified Support: You receive the benefits of a large firm’s resources (through United Planners) delivered with a small-firm level of service.
